First, an apology. I know this blog has been in need of update for awhile. I have taken on full responsibility of the Fredericksburg Fitness Newsletter and that has received all of my fitness-writing attention as of late. But now I'm back (from outer space) and I come bearing gifts.
People always ask me, "Allison, what is your favorite exercise?" (no one has ever asked me this); and I say, "I will tell you, fit citizen" (I don't actually talk like this) "push-ups are, by far, my favorite. Let me tell you why...."
Push-ups are great because, if done properly, they work shoulders, chest, triceps, and core. That's almost everything you've got above your waist. Also, there's so many different kinds of push-ups:
-- Incline and decline push-ups
-- Close-grip and wide-grip push-ups
-- Pike push-ups
-- Grasshopper push-ups
-- Spiderman push-ups
-- T push-ups
-- Diamond push-ups
-- Dive-bomber push-ups
-- Plyometric push-ups
...... The list goes on. All of these push-ups target the upper body differently; for instance, close-grip push-ups puts more weight on the triceps, decline push-ups puts more weight on the shoulders, etc. If you want to watch a stunning fitness professional demonstrate some of these fine push-ups, you can check out my video for the November exercises of the month.
Oh, and if you're wondering what my second favorite exercise is (you're not), the answer: planks.
